The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Response

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure updated team members about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct direction.

This announcement mirrors a similar step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a clearer brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to heart and overhauled the title with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After some time of talks, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s guidance and experience in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years creating and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Brinkman currently holds the position of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, prior to that, had stints at other industry leaders.

Title Details and Concept

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, the developers described the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the genre."
